Get to Know More about Edmonton Photographer Dawn Weir…

I am a studio light photographer and natural light photographer outdoors, based out of St. Albert, Alberta Canada, specializing in maternity, newborn, baby, milestone birthday cake smashes, children, and family portraits.  On request, I will also photograph head shots and models when they need to up date their portfolio.   My photography style is full of vibrant colors while emphasizing the light.  I can also do neutral sessions on request.   My goal in each session is to capture emotion and deliver images that will make you smile or tear up for the rest of your life.

I am a mother of two incredible children (the loves of my life) , and a wife to an amazing and supportive husband …my assistant at times, prop maker, painter, you name it…he is always willing to help me out with my photography business.

I have always had a love for photography and newborn babies.  When I was 14 years old, instead of having posters of hot guys on the wall, I had images of Anne Geddes and a photo of a hot guy with no shirt holding a naked newborn baby.  Yup…I know, it was crazy really.  I had no idea back then that I would turn my love into a passion and a business.  Now I get to do what I love every day!

When I was 23, I got my first SLR camera, and it was love at first sight.  I traveled a lot when I was young, and this camera went with me everywhere.  It wasn’t until I was getting married and needed to find a wedding photographer, that my life would change forever.  It was very difficult to find a photographer willing to give you the negatives (known as raw images today).  I was lucky enough to find one, and we got some beautiful photos, but I ended up directing the entire shoot.  It was after that, my husband said, “Why don’t you be a photographer?”  Strangely enough, I had never entertained the thought of getting paid to do something that I love, and the rest is history.

I am a successful, full-time photographer working since 2001.  With this much time in the photography industry, I have spent endless hours trying to perfect my art.  The one thing that I love is that you can ALWAYS improve, learn new tricks, styles, processing, lighting techniques etc.  I don’t like to do the same routine.  I have my Bachelor of Commerce degree (BCOM)  and Chartered Management Accountant (CMA) designation, and lets just say “month end”  NEVER changes.  Which is why I quit my job at TELUS to become an Edmonton and St. Albert Photographer.

I started shooting weddings first, and when I had my own babes, I moved into newborn and maternity photography.  I am so lucky to have amazing loyal clients who have been referring my services for years.  I still have clients that come every year to see me!  I have seen some for over 14 sessions to date.

I look forward to meeting you and your loved ones to capture images for your family that you will cherish for a lifetime.

      Some other tidbits about me:

Scorpio, favorite color purple, enjoy skiing, playing badminton, watching reality tv shows, eating (yep…love it!), photography (first passion),  and traveling (my second passion).

CUSTOM NEWBORN, MATERNITY, & FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHY OFFERED BY DAWN WEIR

Custom photography is a gift to you and your family and can be passed on for many generations.  You will NEVER regret capturing the precious moments in your child’s life…guaranteed.  How many people look back and say…”I took too many photos of my children”.   Your baby will only fit in Daddy’s hands for a few weeks after birth, and you don’t want to miss capturing this!  When your child gets older, what about those cute expressions and that precious smile your child will give you.  I can capture those emotions that you felt at each critical stage so you can experience them forever.

Each photography session is unique and specialized for you!  I don’t do the same photos for every session, as each session will always have at least one or more setups that has never been done before.  Each image I provide represents much thought and preparation before you even arrive.  I want my photos to be color coordinated so you can display any of the images on the wall and they work together perfectly!   Many things play a part of providing you and your family beautiful images.   Each image produced during your session represents hours preparing colors and coordinating props and backdrops, countless hours and money spent on education and training, thousands of dollars spent on props, backdrops, blankets, wraps, and headbands, and thousands of dollars in state of the art equipment.  Here is a small look at what is in my camera bag…but this just scratches the surface.

      Canon R6

      Canon 16-35 mm F2.8

      Sigma Art  35 mm F1.4

      Canon 50 mm F1.4

      Canon 70 – 200 mm F2.8

      Canon 85 mm F1.8

Each image also represents countless hours of practice, patience, dedication and perseverance to perfect baby positioning, newborn safety, and posing your baby comfortably.  Other costs that go into each image are continuing education, supplies, equipment, props, taxes, insurance, marketing, and so on.  My session fees take into consideration all of these aspects of my business in providing custom photography to you!

I have been perfecting my art as a professional photographer in Edmonton and St. Albert since 2001, and continue to improve every year.  I LOVE my job because it is my PASSION and a CREATIVE outlet for me!  I don’t like doing the same thing everyday, and this allows me to add special touches to each and every clients session!  This is my life and I live and breath photography, it is on my brain ALL the time!  When you hire me to photograph your beautiful family, you are hiring decades of experience.

      Sincerely,

      Dawn Weir
